What You Need In Order To Play
First, you need to come to practices.

What you need to bring to practices:

• For all practices: MOUTHGUARDS (buy 3 and mold them to your teeth and keep them for the season).
• Wear shorts, rugby shorts if possible or heavy ones that will not rip. You may be lifted by them.
• Wear a heavy jersey that will not rip if pulled on. Rugby jerseys are best.
• Wear rugby socks (soccer socks are the same).
• Wear whatever rugby-approved padding you want but make sure it is RUGBY APPROVED (it will have an IRB tag stating so).
• For outdoor practices keep cold, wind, sand, dirt, mud and wetness in mind and bring the right stuff.
• Wallis Sands: It is a beach. Wear cleats because the sand is slippery without them. Prepare for cold and wind. Wear windpants and long sleeves and a couple of layers. Bring gloves and a hat in case it gets chilly. No visors on hats; wear a ski cap with nothing hard so you can wear it during contact drills. Rugby gloves are best or football gloves with grippy surface. Also, bring a change for the ride home so you don’t get sand all over your car.
• York Sports Center and Granite Fields: There are indoor synthetic turf fields so cleats are allowed. Molded cleats are best for synthetic (soccer shoes are fine). Sneakers work OK but not so well once we start hitting and driving. We will warm-up OUTSIDE so bring wind pants to shed. Could be chilly so bring long sleeves that you can shed if necessary.
• Phillips Exeter Cage: This is an indoor hard dirt surface so NO CLEATS, bring sneakers. We may warm-up OUTSIDE so bring wind pants to shed. Could be chilly so bring long sleeves that you can shed if necessary.

What you will need (or may want) to buy before our first match:
(Note : Rugby equipment can be bought from my company Advantage Sports, or from any of the rugby suppliers you find on the Net)

• Navy blue rugby shorts -rugby shorts are specific to the sport and STRONGLY recommended - about $20
• Cleats - Backs (small and fast) can wear molded cleats but may want screw-ins for muddy days; usually low-cut. Loose forwards (bigger and mobile) can get by with molded cleats but rugby screw-ins are better; usually low or mid-cut but highs for bad ankles. Tight forwards (usually the biggest players) need rugby screw ins; usually mid or high-cut. Soccer shoes are OK if you need lows. Football shoes can work too and if you have football screw-ins you should buy rugby studs ($8 per set) and LEAVE THE FRONT TOE CLEAT OFF (required by the Laws). Cost for rugby boots is $40 to $120 with occasional clearance deals.
• Navy blue rugby socks, just like soccer socks.
• 3 mouth guards, molded to your teeth. No strap the kind that goes completely in your mouth, like for soccer.
• Additional headgear or shoulder/body protection (these are pads) can be worn but is optional All padding MUST be IRB approved specifically for rugby. Cost is $35 to $70 for headgear and $45 to $120 for shoulder/body protection.
• Rugby gloves (grippy) are optional but strongly recommended by me for early, chilly matches. Cost is $15-$25.
• Rugby jerseys are supplied of matches but you may want to buy some of practices. Note that jerseys bough from suppliers are designed to withstand pulling and will usually last 2+ years in practice. Fashion rugby jerseys may rip the 1st time. Cost is $25 to $99.
• Note: Team colors are navy blue, Kelly green, and white.

Note that senior plaeyrs form teh Club reoutinely donate unused equipment so we may ahve stuff tha you can use/borrow.
